Program Description:

Many individuals who rushed to capture 2012’s increased lifetime exclusion from federal gift and estate tax later dealt with “buyer’s remorse” when they realized their planning decisions were at odds with other financial goals. As we stand now at the precipice of another rush to plan before 2026’s scheduled drop in the basic exclusion amount, it’s a good time to remember that a potential transfer tax strategy should be evaluated in the context of the individual’s long-term financial needs and ultimate goals for their chosen beneficiaries. Ms. Goode will discuss particular issues to consider in determining whether a client’s estate plan might conflict with their non-tax related goals, how to evaluate such factors, and ways in which clients can retain access to the assets they need while achieving the tax savings they want.
