TITLE: | Private Foundations and Donor-Advised Funds |
Both private foundations and donor-advised funds are effective charitable giving vehicles, yet they offer different levels of control, authority, and philanthropic versatility. This presentation discusses the structure and merits of each vehicle with respect to tax treatment as well as grantmaking, legacy, organizational and investment considerations. It also provides guidelines as to when each vehicle (or both) is the best option for donors.
Bios:
Jessica Donahue is Head of Strategic Alliances at Foundation Source, the nation’s largest provider of comprehensive services for private foundations. Jessica is responsible for the company’s institutional sales initiatives, which include strategic alliances and the development of Foundation Source’s position as a resource for advisory firms in the high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth market. Prior to this role, she was responsible for business development in the company’s South Central Region.
Before joining Foundation Source, Jessica was a financial advisor with Wells Fargo Advisors in Westport, CT. Earlier in her career, she was a Director at Barclays Bank in its investment banking group in New York City. Jessica has a B.S. in Business Administration from Georgetown University and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School. She lives with her family in Westport CT where she in an active alumnus of Georgetown and a member of the Fairfield leadership council of Save the Children.
Davide Estanislau works with private wealth managers, financial advisors, attorneys, and directly with donors regarding the benefits of a private foundation. He brings to Foundation Source extensive experience generating new business relationships and managing existing accounts working with executive level contacts. Prior to joining the company, Davide worked with several companies in the technology and financial services industry, including Fitch Learning, Financial Tracking Technologies, and The Hartford Life Insurance Company.
Davide graduated from Quinnipiac University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Science.
